Trustworthy, Helpful, Fair

From "The state of Americans' trust in each other amid the COVID-19 pandemic", a survey of more than 10,000 US adults performed in April 2020 by the Pew Research Center found that:

  • 53% believe that most people can be trusted
  • 43% think that most people try to be fair
  • 42% say that most people try to help others

... and then, looking at combinations of the three criteria:

  • 29% of Americans are "high trusters" and believe that people generally can be trusted, try to be fair, and help one another
  • 32% are "medium trusters" and gave mixed answers with at least one trusting and one mistrusting response
  • 35% are "low trusters" and gave negative answers to all three questions

... startling and sad numbers in many ways – but a small improvement in altruism and optimism and hope since the prior Pew survey in 2018!
